The Olympic Club
San Francisco, California
Hornberger + Worstell provided complete programming and architectural services for the renovation of and addition to San Francisco’s historic Olympic Club. Founded in 1860, the Olympic Club is the oldest operating athletic club in the Western United States and serves more than 5,000 members. The project was implemented in 2 phases with the construction of a new 110,000 square foot addition followed by the renovation of the 150,000 square foot historic 1911 building.
The Phase I Sutter Street building is comprised of the new 10-story, 110,000 square foot building, connected directly at 6-levels to the Phase II historic main building. The Sutter Building greatly expands athletic facilities to the club by adding a new competitive aquatics natatorium, new basketball/courts gymnasium, female locker/member facilities, food venues, a club store, club central services and parking on 5-levels for 215 cars. Completed in 2004, the Sutter Building served as the “interim Olympic Club” during the Phase II construction.
