Keck Day Hall, Stevenson School,
Pebble Beach, California

Residents and faculty of Keck Day Hall are welcomed by an arched bridge, supported by stone columns, which spans the pedestrian entry to the campus commons. The two-story, 48,000 square foot building contains four faculty apartments, three common rooms, and fifty-five student units in a live/learn environment. The use of over-scaled, wood-framed windows throughout brings natural light to the interior while offering views of the surrounding greenery. Here, as in Stevenson’s Atwood Residence Hall and Rosen Student Center, Hornberger + Worstell has developed double-height common spaces that encourage intimate, informal gathering at hearthside, serving both as entry points and organizing elements for the residence hall.
