John F. Kennedy University,
Concord, California
Hornberger + Worstell, providing programming to account for long-term growth projections, developed a master plan for JFK University to consolidate three former commuter campuses into a single, transit-oriented campus adjacent to a BART station in the heart of downtown Concord. The complex of four buildings, including a joint-use, public/private library, is organized around seasonal open spaces. With shallow plan buildings, facilitating natural ventilation and daylighting, and with advanced building systems, including displacement cooling and ventilation, the scheme is a prototype for LEED multi-building certification.
